PA Cyber’s Video of Civil Rights Leader Awarded Tellys

May 31, 2024

The school’s marketing team received international awards for video production.

The Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School (PA Cyber) announces its video interview of Ruby Golding, an equal rights activist from Beaver County, has received international recognition in the 45th annual Telly Awards. With more than 13,000 entries from around the globe, the Telly Awards honors top video and television content.

The Tellys distinguished PA Cyber’s submission Moments in History: Ruby Golding with the following awards:

  • Silver Telly, Documentary: Short Form (under 40 minutes), Non-Broadcast
  • Bronze Telly, Low Budget (under $700 per minute), Non-Broadcast

The Ruby Golding video also received a nomination in the 2023 Mid-Atlantic Emmy Awards in the category Historical/Cultural – Long Form Content (Single Story or Program) last October. PA Cyber was the only K-12 school nominated at the regional ceremony in Lancaster.

“We are proud Ruby’s story is being heard and recognized,” said Scot Rutledge, the video’s producer and PA Cyber’s Director of Marketing and Communications. “The work she had accomplished and shared is the true winner, and we look forward to her legacy continuing.”

PA Cyber highlighted Golding for her outstanding contributions to the civil rights movement. In 2015, she received the President’s Human Rights Award from the Beaver County NAACP. She worked with business and religious leaders to desegregate communities. In the video interview, she spoke of witnessing Martin Luther King Jr’s “I Have a Dream” speech in Washington, DC.

“When he gave that speech, you couldn’t help but to have that feeling in you,” Golding said. “That feeling made you just want to rededicate yourself to the movement. We came back rededicated…We fought more for our rights than ever before.”

This year’s Telly Award winners include Comcast, FOX, PBS, and National Geographic. Entrants are judged by the Telly Awards Judging Council—an industry body of over 250 leading experts, including advertising agencies, production companies, and major television networks.
