JOB TITLE: School Nurse Supervisor

CLASSIFICATION: Exempt

REPORTS TO: Chief Academic Officer

JOB GOAL: The School Nurse Supervisor oversees school health policies and programs and directs other members of the Nurses Department. This person serves in a pivotal role to provide expertise and oversight for the provision of school health services and promotion of health education. Using clinical knowledge and judgment, the School Nurse Supervisor provides health care to students and staff, performs health screenings, and coordinates medical referrals. This person must have the ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. This person must be able to complete annual state reports prior to due date, business correspondence and effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of students, parents and staff. The School Nurse Supervisor must keep parents/staff informed of changes in immunization requirements according to PA Dept. of Health, provide nursing services, first aid, or emergency care to staff, and track students to assure compliance with state mandates including immunizations, physical examinations, and medical conditions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Active and Valid Pennsylvania License as a Registered Nurse.
  • Experience with school systems is preferred
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Active and Valid PA School Nurse Certification
  • Current First Aid/CPR Instructor Certification
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpretation skills
  • Child Abuse Clearance; Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check; Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Clearance

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide supervision and direction to the members of the school health team for the purpose of prioritizing project deadlines and ensuring optimal utilization of personnel.
  • Supervise department functions including supervising all health services staff, enrolling new students, mailing records, maintaining records, planning, scheduling & coordinating activities, training, advising, etc. for the purpose of ensuring that the department functions in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Communicate daily with team members to coordinate all student health services for the school health program.
  • Establish health care plans for students with special health care needs, including but not limited to individual health plans and emergency health plans, update them as needed, and provide them to teachers and other staff as may be necessary.
  • Monitor compliance of the school health program with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Complete and submit annual health office budget
  • Facilitate and organize the ordering and maintenance of medical supplies and equipment.
  • Maintain confidential student health records
  • Record immunizations, health findings and other relevant health data.
  • Conduct annual health screenings on students.
  • Review student health records upon enrollment including immunization status and chronic and conditions.
  • Train & instruct staff responsible for first aid and CPR.
  • Provide first aid to students and staff as necessary.
  • Educate students and staff in safety and wellness and promote good safety and health practices in the school.
  • Ensure that reports required by the school district; PA Department of Health, Division of School Health; and PA Department of Education are properly prepared and forwarded.
  • Attend workshops/seminars to keep current on school health issues and requirements.
  • Provide students and guardians with referral information along with available community resources to improve access to healthcare.
  • Understand and maintain compliance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and policies as well as school policies.
  • Administer medications and perform procedures according to physician orders and ensure physician orders for individual student medications and/or treatments comply with requirements for administration.
  • Maintain First Aid/CPR Instructor Certification
  • Ability to travel (overnight travel may be required).
  • Perform any additional duties deemed necessary by the Chief Academic Office.
